This last Saturday night, my friends and I decided to do the "South Slope Shuffle" - a tour of the great breweries located in the area of Beer City known as the South Slope. For those of you that are not familiar with The Slope, it is the quickly growing area along Coxe Avenue between downtown and the Asheville Tourists Stadium.
This booming area includes such great emerging institutions as Ben's Tune-Up, and the Asheville, Burial, Twin Leaf, Hi-Wire, and Green Man breweries. After grabbing some yummy apps at Ben's, we hoofed it down to Burial for a quick pint before they closed at 8pm (?!?!?). We then crossed the street to Green Man to meet up with some more shufflers, get another pint, and grab a bite from the Melt Your Heart food truck. After cutting through a construction site, we enjoyed some Twin Leaf suds. Last, but not least, we ended up at Hi-Wire to try to get a pint of Green Tea IPA. After waiting in line for about 15 minutes to get in (this joint was hoppin'!), we were disappointed to find out that they were sold out of the beer that had been trending on Twitter all night.
A great night was had by all. The South Slope Shuffle is a great way to sample a wide variety of beer from some of Asheville's finest, while getting in a little bit of exercise in the process!
